A Mom of all Trades
Good Morning!
First let me say hello, I’m Brittany. I have several titles. Doula, Executive Secretary, Wife, Prospective Student and, MOM.
In my past time I enjoy naps, audio books on mental health, studying for my CLEP exams and Pintresting ideas on sensory activities for my two exceptional children. In my professional life, I write a christian PTSD blog, Help mothers birth, grieve and, take care of their families in the postpartum period as well as, assist Mrs. Wendy Hansing in running Moms on Campus.
I am a mother who chose to start a family instead of seek higher education. In retrospect, it was a sad waste, for a few different reasons
I believed I HAD to choose.
I had no support to do both
NO ONE encouraged me otherwise.
It is still a very common held belief that mothers should play many roles yet; there is also a very common held belief that we can be two places at once, that we are, Moms of all trades
Now, to introduce Moms on Campus, the organization aiming to bridge many gaps. Gaps in knowledge, culture, resources and support. A non judgmental space for moms to admit, accept and embrace that they are not, in fact, moms of all trades. A collaborative effort to ensure that mothers have access to and make FULL use of resources already in place. In instances where there is not one, attempt to fill that need. WE ARE HERE FOR YOU.
A mother-student has many needs. She has many faucets. Repeatedly, institutions have failed to recognize the double standard placed on her. All the undue stress and fear. If you are a student you may have already been exposed to this. If you have children, you may have seen this as well. Criteria for developmental, mental, emotional, etc milestones based on archaic male stereotypical presentations. Programs aimed specifically at young male students.
Thankfully, (finally), there is beginning to be real work done in the area of female students. In the area of parental students. Our hope is that we can serve you. That we can educate you. That we can partner with and support you. Welcome.
Welcome to our organization. Welcome to our safe space. welcome to all mothers. Welcome to fathers trying to be mothers as well. We are here. We are listening. Speak your truth. Ask for help. Volunteer support. Make waves in shallow pools. Monsoons in deep waters. You have our support. It is time. Your time. My time. OUR time.
Here’s to you mom
From one mom of ONE trade to another,
Brittany
